In today’s competitive hospitality landscape, creating a memorable guest experience goes far beyond serving great food. It is about creating a connection with guests and making every interaction feel welcoming, personal and dependable. As the Texas Catering Manager for Hawaiian Bros Island Grill, I see firsthand how those experiences can turn a first-time customer into a loyal guest and a successful catering event into a long-term relationship.

At Hawaiian Bros, our brand is rooted in the spirit of ALOHA, creating an experience that is welcoming, genuine and centered around people. In catering, that philosophy becomes especially important because we have the opportunity to be part of some of our guests’ most important moments, from corporate meetings and school events to celebrations, fundraisers and family gatherings.

Operational excellence is the foundation of great catering. Behind every successful event are accurate orders, proper preparation, reliable communication, attention to timing and a team that understands the importance of consistency. The operational side should never make the guest experience feel impersonal.

I always focus on understanding what each client is trying to accomplish with their event. Every group has different needs, and taking the time to listen allows us to provide a more personalized experience while still following the systems that keep our operations running smoothly.

When we create experiences where guests feel welcomed, appreciated and confident that we truly care about their event, we give them a reason to come back.

I also believe that hospitality is tested when something does not go according to plan. How we communicate, respond and find a solution can make a lasting impression. Guests remember when a team takes ownership and makes them feel supported. That level of care is an important part of delivering the Hawaiian Bros experience.

Exceptional hospitality starts with the people delivering it. As a leader, one of my priorities is creating a team that understands that hospitality is more than completing a task. It is about how we make people feel.

Training team members to understand the “why” behind what they do helps create that mindset. Whether they are preparing a catering order, helping a guest, loading an event or interacting with a client, every team member has an opportunity to positively influence the experience.

I also believe in recognizing employees who demonstrate ownership, kindness and initiative. When team members feel trusted, appreciated and empowered to take care of guests, they are more likely to create genuine connections. That culture ultimately becomes part of the brand experience.

Guest expectations are changing quickly, particularly as technology makes ordering, communication and event planning more convenient. Digital ordering, catering platforms, online communication and customer data can help hospitality businesses become more efficient and better understand their guests.

Technology should enhance the relationship, not replace it. Even with all the tools available today, people still want to feel seen and valued.

I believe the future of loyalty lies in finding the right balance between convenience and connection. Technology can help us remember preferences, simplify the ordering process, communicate more effectively and anticipate needs, while our people provide the warmth and personal interaction that make the experience memorable.

My biggest piece of advice to hospitality professionals is to focus on the small details and remember that every interaction is an opportunity to build trust.

Listen to your guests. Follow through on your commitments. Anticipate their needs whenever possible, and when a challenge arises, take ownership of finding a solution. Most importantly, treat every event as an opportunity to build a relationship rather than simply complete a transaction.

One successful event can lead to a repeat corporate order, another celebration, a referral or an entirely new partnership. I have seen how consistently delivering great experiences can turn a single catering order into an ongoing relationship.

Loyalty is earned through consistency, trust and genuine care. At Hawaiian Bros, the spirit of ALOHA reminds us that hospitality is about more than food. It is about people. When we create experiences where guests feel welcomed, appreciated and confident that we truly care about their event, we give them a reason to come back. That is what transforms a successful transaction into lasting loyalty.
