Inside the Evolving World of Hospitality Procurement

Turning Challenges into Solutions
One of my key strengths in procurement is that I do not give up easily. No matter the challenge, I approach it with a can-do attitude and stay focused on finding a solution. That mindset has helped me work through sourcing challenges, secure products in difficult situations and identify opportunities to save money while still meeting operational needs.
I also rely heavily on the trusted vendor relationships I have built over the years. Those relationships have been instrumental in helping me source products efficiently, navigate supply chain issues and create more reliable sourcing strategies. Having strong partnerships with vendors allows for better communication, quicker problem-solving and long-term success for everyone involved.
Managing Rising Costs in a Changing Marketplace
Right now, one of the biggest challenges in hospitality procurement is pricing. Costs continue to rise across the board, which makes sourcing quality products at a fair price much more difficult than it used to be. At the beginning of the year, budgets are established based on current market conditions, but as the months go on, pricing and availability can change quickly.
Because of that, it is important to stay ahead and plan proactively. I focus on finding ways to protect the business from unexpected cost increases while still maintaining the quality and service standards our teams rely on. Securing contracts and requesting locked-in pricing are a few of the strategies I use to create more stability and help manage costs over time.
Why Vendor Relationships Matter
I consider my vendors to be partners, not just suppliers. For me, strong supplier relationships are built on fairness, honesty and open communication. I expect vendors to be upfront with me in return, I approach those relationships the same way.
When challenges come up, I rely on my vendors to work with me and help find solutions, just as I would do for them. Over the years, I have had vendors reach out asking for help with excess inventory or orders that were refused, and whenever possible, I try to support them. I believe the best partnerships are a two-way street where both sides are willing to help each other succeed.
That level of trust creates stronger long-term relationships, better collaboration and ultimately more value for everyone involved.
Using AI to Strengthen Procurement Strategy
One of the biggest trends transforming procurement right now is the use of AI. It is changing the way procurement teams review contracts, source products and compare pricing more efficiently. These tools are helping streamline processes and provide better visibility when making purchasing decisions.
At the same time, securing competitive pricing has become more important than ever. To stay ahead, we are continuing to grow and develop our corporate procurement efforts so we can better leverage corporate buying power and create more consistency across purchasing. Strengthening that approach helps us secure pricing, improve efficiency and stay competitive in a constantly changing market.
Building a Career through Persistence and Relationships
My best advice to someone entering procurement is simple: do not give up. Procurement can be one of the most frustrating jobs at times, but it can also be one of the most rewarding. Every day brings new challenges, and that is part of what makes the work so satisfying.
If you are with the right company, they will support your growth and give you opportunities to learn and develop along the way. It is also important to build strong relationships with both your internal team and your vendors because those relationships become your greatest support system.
I have been very fortunate throughout my career to be both supported and challenged and those experiences have helped shape me into the professional I am today. Looking back, I would not change any of it.
